So yeah, I took probably my most detailed steampunk design yet... and made it pony. XD

Anyway, very (non-canon) steampunk city that Twilight and Spike have traveled to (no I have no storyline behind it... yet).

You can add scents to the oils and gasses that power the lanterns.

Good point, and the bad smell I ment was the scent of burning well, gasoline, unless they use natural gas.

More than a few gas lamp types, like the ones used in the late 1800's (and thus like the ones used here), ran on kerosene, which doesn't have much of a smell to it when it burns.
