Okay, if you didn't get the meaning behind the title, it's about another dream I had last night (man, I've been getting a lot of dreams lately).

This one featured a race of elves (not the small, 2.5 feet tall kind). The usual height for a fully grown member of the species was in between 5.5 and 6 feet tall. They had the typical tall, pointed ears of elves as well.

The most unusual thing about them is that through their lives they went through an odd metamorphosis. Depending upon which terrain a member of the species favored, they became either what they called a snow elf or a mer elf.

They would have to become a member of these two devisions at some point in their lives (usually just after peuberty). They would have to do this because if they didn't, they'd become mortal and die (these elves have an unlimited lifespan, but only if they grow the traits of the mer or snow variety as their body's abillity to activate the DNA for infinite cell production depend on at least one of these two traits being active).

Snow elves have pure white skin, and a dull colored hair. To become one of them, a member of this elven species would have to travel to a mountain of a high elevation (the lower air pressure would cause their bodies to adapt the snow gene). They have increased resistance to the cold, excellent eyesight in blinding snow, and increased hearing as well to help identify wild animals that might live on the mountains.

Mer elves are aquatic (I knew there was going to be fish somewhere in this dream). Their bodies are covered in fish scales (the color varies from person to person), they have gills, and also long fins and tails. Mer elves were the inspiration for the stories of mermaids and mermen in their world's culture. They still posess legs and lungs and can leave water if they wish.

After becomming one of these two types (snow or mer) one of these elves can leave their new environment and return to their old homes and lives (the changes are perminant, and mainly for longevity's sake rather than anything else anymore).



There is one more odd trait of this species that seems strange; they don't give birth to live young. Instead, they lay eggs (which are about the same size as, if not a bit larger than, an ostrich egg). The eggs are of multiple colors and, once again, varry per individual.







It was a weird dream, what can I tell you? O_o
